Georgia Roof Guide

What are some examples of architectural shingles?

Short answer. Common examples of architectural shingles include GAF Timberline HDZ, Owens Corning TruDefinition Duration, CertainTeed Landmark, IKO Cambridge and Dynasty, TAMKO Heritage and Atlas Pinnacle Pristine. Each manufacturer also makes thicker premium versions, Class 4 impact-resistant versions, and designer shingles that mimic slate or shake.

Premium step-ups

Thicker versions with deeper shadow lines include GAF Timberline UHDZ and CertainTeed Landmark Pro. They cost more and are chosen mainly for curb appeal.

Impact-resistant versions

Class 4 options include GAF Timberline AS II and Timberline UHDZ with UltraMat, Owens Corning Duration FLEX and Duration STORM, CertainTeed Landmark ClimateFlex and IKO Nordic. They look much like their standard counterparts.

Designer shingles

Several manufacturers make heavier, multi-layer shingles cut to imitate slate or hand-split shake, usually at a noticeable premium.

How to use this list

Product names and colors change, and some lines are regional, so confirm what is available in Georgia before deciding. Compare lines on wind rating, nailing zone, impact class, algae warranty and the installer's certification rather than the name alone. Our guides to architectural vs 3-tab shingles and impact-resistant shingles in Georgia help with that comparison.
