How much do gutter guards cost?
Short answer. Gutter guard cost depends far more on type and who installs it than on the brand name: basic DIY screens are the cheapest, professionally installed stainless micro-mesh costs several times more, and heavily marketed dealer systems are usually the most expensive by a wide margin. Your total comes down to how many linear feet of gutter you have, the height of the house, and whether the gutters need repairs first.
The price tiers
- DIY screens, foam and brush inserts. Lowest cost, highest maintenance, shortest life.
- DIY aluminum or mesh panels. A step up in cost and a big step up in performance, especially stainless micro-mesh.
- Professionally installed mesh. You pay for labor, cleaning and gutter tune-up before install, proper fastening and usually a workmanship warranty.
- Dealer-sold proprietary systems. Often sold through in-home presentations with a high starting price and a same-day discount. Performance is similar to good mesh; the price usually is not.
What moves the total
- Linear feet of gutter, plus the number of inside and outside corners.
- Story count and access: two-story and steep lots cost more to work safely.
- Prep work: cleaning, re-securing hangers, resealing seams or fixing slope.
- Gutter size: 6-inch guards cost more than 5-inch.
- Material and warranty length.
Comparing quotes fairly
Ask every installer for the guard type and material, the price per linear foot, what prep is included, how corners are handled and what the warranty covers, since many cover the material but not clogging. Be skeptical of prices that drop sharply if you sign tonight. If your gutters are old or undersized, compare the guard quote against new seamless gutters with guards; sometimes the difference is smaller than expected. More in gutter sizing and guards.
