How much does soffit repair cost?
Short answer. A small soffit repair, such as resecuring sagging panels, replacing a few damaged pieces, or patching an animal hole, often costs a few hundred dollars. The price rises when the repair uncovers rotted fascia, sub fascia, or rafter tails, or when the work is high on a two story eave.
Common soffit repairs
- Sagging or loose panels: often just need to be reseated in the channel and refastened.
- Cracked or missing vinyl: individual panels can be replaced if a color match is available. Faded originals may not match exactly.
- Animal entry: squirrels and birds often enter at corners or weak spots. Repair includes sealing the opening with sturdy material, usually after the animals are confirmed out.
- Rotted wood soffit: cutting out and replacing a section, priming, and painting.
- Storm damage: wind can peel panels loose, and falling limbs can crush sections.
What raises the cost
- Rot that extends into fascia, sub fascia, or rafter tails.
- Height, steep slopes, and difficult ladder setups.
- Matching discontinued colors or profiles, which may mean replacing a whole side.
- Removing and resetting gutters to reach the work.
- Wildlife removal, which is usually a separate service.
Insurance basics
Sudden damage from wind or a falling tree may be covered under a homeowners policy, often together with roof damage from the same storm. Many policies exclude damage caused by rodents and other pests, and gradual rot from long term moisture is usually not covered. Check your policy.
Find the cause
Soffit rarely fails on its own. Overflowing gutters, missing drip edge, or a leak at the roof edge are the usual culprits, and repairing the soffit without fixing them means paying again. See drip edge explained and common roof leak causes.
