Georgia Roof Guide

How can you get GAF Timberline shingle samples?

Short answer. Ask a GAF certified contractor or a local roofing supplier for full-size Timberline shingles or a sample board in the colors you are considering, since GAF itself advises looking at several full-size shingles rather than relying on printed or on-screen colors. Then judge them outdoors, at different times of day, next to your brick and siding.

Where samples come from

How to look at samples

  1. View them outside, never under store or kitchen lighting.
  2. Look in morning and late afternoon light, since blends shift a lot.
  3. Lean a shingle against the house at roughly roof angle, then step back 30 feet. Color reads lighter and grayer at a distance.
  4. Hold samples against your brick, stone, siding and trim.
  5. Compare two or three finalists side by side instead of judging one alone.

Then look at whole roofs

A single shingle cannot show how shadow lines repeat across a slope. Ask for addresses of finished roofs in your top color, or drive through newer subdivisions where that color is common.

Check the line and color name

Make sure the sample comes from the same Timberline line as your quote, since color names repeat across lines with different blends. Note the exact name for your HOA submittal. See the best shingle colors for Georgia heat and HOA roof approval in Georgia.
