How much does gutter guard installation cost?
Short answer. Installation is a large share of what you pay for professionally fitted gutter guards, and it rises with house height, the number of corners, and how much prep the gutters need before guards go on. Installing guards at the same time as new gutters is usually the cheapest way to get them, because the gutters are clean, true and open on installation day.
What the labor actually covers
- Setting up ladders or staging safely on each side of the house.
- Cleaning out every run and flushing downspouts.
- Re-securing loose hangers, resealing joints and correcting slope where needed.
- Cutting and fitting panels, mitering corners and fastening every panel.
- Testing flow and hauling away debris.
Factors that raise installation cost
- Height. Two-story and three-story eaves, steep yards and walkout basements need taller ladders and more setup time.
- Complex rooflines. Many corners, dormers and short runs take more cuts.
- Prep. Heavy sludge, crushed downspouts or gutters pulling off the fascia can add hours before any guard goes on.
- Roof type. Steep or metal roofs require more care so the roof is not damaged.
- Fascia repair. Rotted fascia must be replaced before anything is screwed to it.
DIY versus pro
DIY saves the labor but not the risk. On a one-story house with sound gutters, it is a reasonable weekend project. On a two-story house, the ladder work is the hard and dangerous part. If you hire it out, ask what prep is included and whether there is a workmanship warranty separate from the product warranty.
The cheapest time to do it
If your gutters or roof are near replacement, wait. New gutters plus guards on the same day means no cleaning, no repairs and one setup. See gutter sizing and guards and what to expect on roof replacement day.
